What is wrong

On certain motorcycles, the fuel pump flange could crack. If this happens, fuel could leak while the engine is running. Note: This recall only affects motorcycles that did not have the fuel pump replaced under Transport Canada recall 2013-442.

A fuel leak can create the risk of a fire.

What the dealer will do

BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealer to replace the fuel pump and auxiliary fuel pump (if equipped) with an improved version.

What is wrong

Certain motorcycles with dealer installed accessory turn signals may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CVMSS) 108 - Lighting System and Retroreflective Devices. The size of the lens on the accessory turn signals may be too small, and therefore would not meet the requirements of the standard. This could reduce vehicle conspicuity to following and approaching road users, and increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will replace the accessory turn signals with factory indicators that meet the requirements of the standard.

What is wrong

On certain motorcycles, the threaded holes on the rear wheel flange could crack if the wheel bolts are tightened beyond the specified torque limit during servicing. Over time, this could allow the bolts to back out of their threaded holes, causing the rear wheel to become loose. This could result in a loss of stability of the motorcycle, and increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will replace the aluminum rear wheel flange with a steel flange.

What is wrong

On certain motorcycles, cracks could develop in the fuel pump and/or auxiliary fuel pump flange (if equipped). This would result in fuel leaking when the engine is turned on and the fuel system is pressurized. Leaking fuel, in the presence of an ignition source, could lead to a fire causing injury and/or damage to property.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will inspect the fuel pump flange(s) and install a reinforcing ring or replace the fuel pump(s), as necessary.

What is wrong

On certain motorcycles, the front brake lines (due to its current routing) may be under strain. The vibrations that occur when the motorcycle is being ridden could cause the brake lines to develop leaks, allowing brake fluid to escape and cause the level of fluid in the reservoir of the front brake system to drop. Brake fluid leakage could result in loss of front braking capability, which could lead to a crash causing property damage, personal injury or death.

What is wrong

On certain motorcycles, high generator speeds combined with large demands for electrical current could cause spurious signals to emerge within the electrical system. This could affect the pressure sensor signals of the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) control unit, which in turn could cause the ABS to switch off. The telltale light in the instrument panel would illuminate to notify that the ABS function is not available.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will install a capacitor meant to block interfering electrical signals.

What is wrong

On certain motorcycles, the fuel pump control unit may be subject to water intrusion which, in time, will cause it to fail. Engine stalling would result in lost propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the rider's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the fuel pump control unit.
