What is wrong

On certain trucks, a poor electrical connection could cause a sudden loss of power steering assist. Note: This recall does not include vehicles that were repaired under Transport Canada Recall 2016-043.

Why it matters

A loss of power steering assist may result in a sudden increase in steering effort, especially at low vehicle speeds. This could increase the risk of a crash.

What the dealer will do

General Motors will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer to replace the steering gear torque sensor cover assembly.

What is wrong

Certain vehicles may experience a sudden loss of electric power steering assist due to a poor electrical connection within the torque-sensor harness connector. Steering control can be maintained, as the vehicle will revert to a manual steering mode, but will require greater driver effort. The sudden change in steering may increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will replace steering gear pinion sensor cover assembly. Note: If the power steering assist is lost, a message is displayed on the Driver Information Centre and a chime sounds to inform the driver.

On certain vehicles, the front brake calipers could leak brake fluid. This could cause longer brake pedal travel and increased stopping distances, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

What is wrong

Certain vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 207 – Anchorage of Seats. Certain seat-frame attachment hooks that secure the front driver and/or front passenger's seat may not have been properly attached to the vehicle body during the assembly process. If this condition were present, the seat could fail to meet the requirements of the standard. This could increase the risk of injury in a crash.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will inspect seats for proper installation, and if required, disassemble and properly reassemble the seats.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the front driver airbag inflator may separate from the airbag-module backplate during a deployment due to a misalignment during assembly. In a crash, this may cause airbag components to separate from the steering wheel, which could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury. Failure of the driver airbag to fully deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will remove the driver airbag module and inspect the inflator to module housing backplate for proper alignment. The airbag will be replaced if it is found to be misaligned.

What is wrong

Certain vehicles may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 208 - Occupant Protection. During the manufacturing process, the driver's airbag connection may have been wired incorrectly. This would affect the vehicles' two-stage airbag system by reversing the deployment sequence and disrupting the deployment timing of the driver airbag stages. This could result in the driver airbags to not function as designed, which could increase the potential for injury to the seat occupant in a crash.

What the dealer will do

Dealers are to reprogram the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM).
