What is wrong

Certain vehicles operated in areas of heavy road de-icing material usage (Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland & Labrador) may experience excessive corrosion in the vicinity of the left or right forward mounting point bracket for the rear suspension lower link, prior to the time that such corrosion would normally be expected. In certain cases, excessive corrosion in this vicinity may result in the left or right rear suspension lower link bracket becoming detached from the frame, which can affect vehicle handling and potentially cause a crash resulting in property damage or personal injury.

What the dealer will do

Inspection and repairs will be provided free of charge for vehicles that are ten years old or less. For vehicles over ten years old, GM of Canada will offer the same free remedy, but only if the vehicle is presented to a GM dealer no later than twelve (12) months after the owner notification letter mailing date.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, paint may have been applied unevenly on the rear axles. In cases where the paint was too thick, the allotted drying time may have resulted in insufficient paint hardness. Should this occur on the surface that contacts the rear axle lower link bracket bolt head and/or nut, the nut may later loosen. If the nut should detach fully separation of the lower link from the rear axle could occur. This may result in loss of vehicle control and a possible crash.

What the dealer will do

Dealers will remove the rear axle lower trailing link nuts and bolts and replace them with new self-lock nuts and bolts.
