Recalls

Good news: Recall repairs are almost always free. Book with any manufacturer dealer and quote the recall number. Transport Canada’s own wording is that a manufacturer “will almost always make these repairs free of charge”, so being asked to pay for recall work is unusual and worth questioning. Since 2018 the Minister of Transport can order a company to pay for repairs so owners do not bear the cost.

Transport Canada recall 2026196 · manufacturer campaign D126

17 April 2026

Transport Canada lists: Defender 2020–2024 · Discovery 2020–2024 · Range Rover 2019–2024 · Evoque 2020–2023

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the DC/DC converter could fail. As a result, the 12 V battery would not charge and a red "Stop Safely Electrical Fault Detected" warning message would be displayed. If this happens, and you continue to drive the vehicle, there could be a loss of power to the wheels and/or the vehicle's lights could turn off. Note: This recall only affects certain mild hybrid electric vehicles (MHEV).

Why it matters

A loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. Exterior lights that don't work may make the vehicle less visible to others and increase the risk of a crash.

What the dealer will do

Land Rover will notify owners by mail. The corrective actions for this recall are under development.

10 October 2024

Transport Canada lists: Defender 2020–2025 · Discovery 2021–2025 · Range Rover 2019–2025

What is wrong

This recall is for certain replacement engines. The oil filter housing may not have been manufactured properly. Over time, the housing could crack and cause oil to leak onto hot components in the engine compartment.

Why it matters

Oil that leaks onto hot components can create the risk of a fire. Additionally, an oil leak could create a hazard for others and increase the risk of a crash.

What the dealer will do

None of the affected engines have been installed in vehicles. Land Rover will instruct dealers to replace the oil filter housing assembly before each engine is installed.

Transport Canada lists: Range Rover 2018–2022

What is wrong

On certain Ranger Rover Sport models, the recall repairs completed by a Land Rover dealer during recall N778 (Transport Canada recall no. 2024-017) may not have been done correctly. As a result, a second repair is required. On certain vehicles, water could leak into the rearview camera and cause the rearview camera image not to display correctly. Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with a surround camera system.

Why it matters

A rearview camera image that doesn't display correctly could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash.

What the dealer will do

Land Rover will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the rearview camera and install a new seal. The dealer will replace the rearview camera, if necessary.

Transport Canada lists: Range Rover 2019–2021

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the water pump drive belt could become damaged and detach. As a result, the engine could overheat and cause the coolant elbow to rupture. If this happens, coolant could leak onto the turbocharger heatshield. Note: This recall only affects plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models.

Why it matters

A coolant leak onto the turbocharger heatshield may lead to a fire in the engine bay.

What the dealer will do

Land Rover will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the engine coolant elbow and turbocharger feed coolant pipe.

Transport Canada recall 2019029 · manufacturer campaign N276

17 January 2019

Transport Canada lists: Range Rover 2019

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the engine crankshaft pulley bolt may have been manufactured improperly. This could cause it to crack and fail. If this happens, the crankshaft could break and cause a sudden engine failure. A driver may hear loud noises and see warning lights on the dash immediately before the engine fails.

Why it matters

An engine failure could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, a loose pulley could separate from the engine and cause damage. If it separates from the vehicle, it could become a hazard for bystanders or other drivers.

What the dealer will do

The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to an authorized repair facility to have the crankshaft pulley bolt replaced with a new one.

Running cost uses Ontario average prices (155 ¢/L, 14.5 ¢/kWh), which are hand-maintained estimates. These are average residential rates. A car’s charging is added on top of what your home already uses, so on a tiered, time-of-use or subsidised tariff it is billed at your top rate rather than this average — which makes the real cost higher, especially in the territories.
