Recalls

Good news: Recall repairs are almost always free. Book with any manufacturer dealer and quote the recall number. Transport Canada’s own wording is that a manufacturer “will almost always make these repairs free of charge”, so being asked to pay for recall work is unusual and worth questioning. Since 2018 the Minister of Transport can order a company to pay for repairs so owners do not bear the cost.

Transport Canada recall 1998093

12 May 1998

Transport Canada lists: 200SX 1995–1998 · Sentra 1995–1998

What is wrong

WATER COULD ENTER AND DISPLACE THE GREASE IN THE WIPER ARM LINKAGE BALL JOINT WHERE THE WIPER LINKAGE ATTACHES TO THE WIPER MOTOR LINKAGE. THIS COULD RESULT IN GRADUAL WEAR INSIDE THE JOINT THAT COULD LEAD TO THE SEPARATION OF THE WIPER LINKAGE ASSEMBLY FROM THE WIPER MOTOR LINKAGE AT THE BALL JOINT. THIS CONDITION WOULD RESULT IN LOSS OF WINDSHIELD WIPER FUNCTION.

What the dealer will do

A WATER DIVERSION SHIELD WILL BE ADDED TO THE WIPER LINKAGE BALL JOINT AREA. ALSO, THE PASSENGER'S SIDE WIPER PIVOT AND TWO WIPER LINKS WILL BE REPLACED WITH NEW ONES.

Transport Canada recall 1997140 · manufacturer campaign R-43

14 August 1997

Transport Canada lists: 200SX 1995–1996 · Sentra 1995–1997

What is wrong

WHEN THE THROTTLE POSITION REMAINS UNCHANGED WHEN DRIVING FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME AT LOW AMBIENT TEMPERATURES, MOISTURE MAY CONDENSE IN THE THROTTLE CHAMBER AND FREEZE. THIS COULD RESULT IN THE THROTTLE BEING KEPT OPEN AND THE ENGINE NOT RETURNING TO IDLE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS RELEASED. UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS THIS COULD ADVERSELY AFFECT VEHICLE BRAKING.

What the dealer will do

A MODIFIED THROTTLE CHAMBER GASKET, WHICH HAS A COUNTERMEASURE SLEEVE, AND A MODIFIED ECM, WHICH CONTROLS EGR OPERATION UNDER LOW AMBIENT TEMPERATURE, WILL BE INSTALLED IF NECESSARY.

6 March 1995

Transport Canada lists: 200SX 1995 · Sentra 1995

What is wrong

THE ABS HYDRAULIC ACTUATOR MAY CONTAIN AIR BUBBLES THAT COULD GET INTO THE BRAKE SYSTEM. THIS COULD CAUSE INCREASED BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL AND INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES.

What the dealer will do

SYSTEM WILL BE PURGED OF ALL AIR. NOTE: NO VEHICLES HAVE AS YET BE RETAILED. ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES WILL BE INSPECTED/REPAIRED PRIOR TO DELIVERY.

Source: Transport Canada — Vehicle Recalls Database; NRCan — Fuel consumption ratings. Data current as of 6 August 2026. Running cost uses Ontario average prices (155 ¢/L, 14.5 ¢/kWh), which are hand-maintained estimates. These are average residential rates. A car’s charging is added on top of what your home already uses, so on a tiered, time-of-use or subsidised tariff it is billed at your top rate rather than this average — which makes the real cost higher, especially in the territories.
