Good news: Recall repairs are almost always free. Book with any manufacturer dealer and quote the recall number. Transport Canada’s own wording is that a manufacturer “will almost always make these repairs free of charge”, so being asked to pay for recall work is unusual and worth questioning. Since 2018 the Minister of Transport can order a company to pay for repairs so owners do not bear the cost.

What is wrong

On certain trucks, poor signal strength could cause the electronic control unit (ECU) to stop working or not to work properly. As a result, some safety systems may not work, including the antilock braking system, automatic traction control, electronic stability control, active cruise control and the collision mitigation system. Note: For the VNR model, this recall affects only the VNRe model. Safety Risks: Vehicle safety systems that don't work correctly could increase the risk of a crash.

What the dealer will do

Volvo will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your truck to a dealership to reprogram the ECU software.

What is wrong

On certain trucks, the steering gear may not have been manufactured properly. As a result, power steering fluid could leak and cause a loss of power steering assist. Note: For the VNR model, this recall affects both VNR and VNRe models.

Why it matters

A loss of power steering assist can cause a sudden increase in steering effort and create the risk of a crash.

What the dealer will do

Volvo Trucks will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your truck to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the steering gear.
