What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the power transfer unit (PTU) could become damaged and fail. If this happens, there could be a loss of power to the wheels and/or the vehicle could move when it's parked and the parking brake isn't applied. Note: This recall only affects certain vehicles equipped with a two-speed PTU.

A loss of power to the wheels or a parked vehicle that moves suddenly could create the risk of an injury and/or a crash.

What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the input shaft snap ring in the power transfer unit (PTU) may not have been installed properly. As a result, the PTU could become damaged and fail. If this happens, there could be a loss of power to the wheels and/or the vehicle could move when it's parked and the parking brake isn't applied. Note: This recall only affects certain vehicles equipped with a two-speed PTU.

Why it matters

A loss of power to the wheels or a parked vehicle that moves suddenly could create the risk of an injury and/or a crash.

What the dealer will do

FCA Canada will notify owners in writing and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the drivetrain control module and install a diagnostic software that will monitor the PTU and warn you if it detects a problem. If you see this warning, you should contact a dealership to arrange for the replacement of the PTU.

On certain vehicles, the rearview camera image may be displayed even after the transmission is shifted out of reverse. This could cause a possible distraction for the driver. Canadian regulations require the rearview image to turn off within 10 seconds after shifting from reverse gear.

On certain vehicles, a problem with the airbag sensors could cause the airbag system not to properly detect certain types of crashes. This problem could result in the airbags not deploying properly in a crash. Note: This problem would cause the airbag warning light to stay on in the instrument cluster.
